The Autism Diagnostic Research Centre, Southampton, is one of only a small number of UK-based services for adults suspected of having high-functioning autism or Asperger Syndrome. The service brings together a range of clinical specialists with the aim of:
- Determining a formal diagnosis based on objective data;
- Addressing the possibility of additional clinical conditions which frequently occur with high-functioning autism or Asperger Syndrome;
- Identifying an individual's cognitive strengths, as well as possible difficulties; thereby
- Providing a report that helps the individual better understand their own condition, and others understand the conditions necessary for habilitation, in order to enable those with a diagnosis to live more engaged, productive, and fulfilling lives.
